The acclaimed international performance showcase Solo Art, Solo Heart, devised and organised by City Arts, comes to Nottingham on 1st and 2nd of July with a stunning line-up of international and UK performers.  This event is part of the City Arts, Artist in Exile programme delivered in partnership with Long Journey Home and will form part of this year’s Refugee Week.

In this second showcase there will be an unmissable mixture of dance, film, poetry and music featuring performers from Kurdistan, Africa, India and the UK at the larger venue of Nottingham Contemporary.

Professional Kurdish performers from around the world will present their unique talents, joining a diverse group of UK artists in a stunning and thought-provoking evening of entertainment. Highlights include acclaimed musicians Karzan Mahmood & Kani, contemporary dancer Karwan Owmar, slide shows of Kurdish photographers selected via competition, African percussion from Surahata Susso and beatboxing from Danny Ladwa.

This year we are also offering four free workshops at the New Art Exchange, these include African drumming, beatboxing, music and mask making (listed in workshops on this website).  These accessible workshops give local people the chance to learn and experience inspiring art forms.

Leading up to the event we are working with three local primary schools in May. Children from the school will have the unique opportunity to work with several diverse artists and take part in 30 workshops. The workshops will be filmed and result in an artistic film which will be premiered at ‘Solo Art’.”
